At the age of twelve Alejo draws caricatures of his teachers who turn a blind eye to what he is doing until he finishes the drawing and then confiscate it. Yet the teachers, rather than just holding on to them, later discuss their pertinence amongst themselves.
A critic notes this aspect of Alejo Vidal-Quadras’ talent: “An agile eye, a skillful hand, perspicacity and a sense of humor that approaches the limits of wickedness – what more is required to create an artistic caricature? When the caricaturist is a man of the world, his stroke acquires an aspect of truth, which turns [his creations] into a witness of his time. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, armed with his pencil and in his own way, was a chronicler of his time.”
